I'm mostly known as a nature and travel photographer, but I also do a handful of portrait sessions and the occasional wedding each year. I enjoy them. It's a privilege to be allowed to document the important milestones (or even just the day to day moments) in a person's life. Scott and Natasha have a new member in their family, Kayden - now six months old. I photographed their wedding a few years ago as well as their engagement shoot, which included their dog, Indy (short for Indiana I believe).
Earlier this year, Natasha asked me to do a family shoot for them this month. I chose Bass Lake as the location because that is where we did the engagement shoot in 2013. I thought it fitting. Instead of writing a post and showing only the images from the recent family shoot I've decided to tell the story in a few photographs from the engagement, wedding, and family session. I chose only black and white edits. Black and white images are simpler, and I find them more pleasing to the eye than brightly colored ones; the latter I sometimes find distracting, and with fewer distractions one can focus on what's really important.
